Six Senses Krabey Island Review: Family-Friendly Eco-Luxury in Cambodia

10/23/2025 by Kristin Addis Leave a Comment

There are few places in the world that make you exhale the moment you arrive. Six Senses Krabey Island is one of them.

Just a 10-minute boat ride from Cambodia’s coast, this lush, private island feels worlds away from the mainland. You can hear the cicadas humming, waves lapping softly at the shore, and the rustle of palms as you’re driven in a buggy through the jungle to your villa. It’s peaceful, grounded, and effortlessly luxurious. It’s the kind of place that reminds you to slow down.

And what surprised me most? Just how family-friendly it is.

Villas with Private Pools and Jungle Views

Every villa at Six Senses Krabey Island comes with its own private pool, which instantly made this trip feel easy and indulgent. We could swim while our son napped, or watch the sunset from the deck without ever leaving the room.

The design is that perfect Six Senses mix — organic textures, wood and stone, soft light filtering through the trees. It feels calm and restorative, yet full of quiet detail. Inside, there’s a deep soaking tub, a shower with a sliding door you can open to make it feel like an outdoor shower, and all the space you need to unpack and actually feel at home.

There is a separate sitting area which was perfect for transforming into a bed for our 3 year old, and it gave us that separation of space we always crave on vacation – because who wants to sit in the dark after their kids go to sleep at 7:30?

It’s the kind of room that makes you think, “Okay, I could stay here forever.”

We had the ocean view pool villa suite which had that separate sitting area space. I think it was perfect with a toddler as we could still see the ocean while feeling like we were up in the trees. There are also jungle hideaway villas, multi room residences, and beachfront suites.

Sustainability You Can Feel

Six Senses has long been a leader in sustainable luxury, but here it’s not just marketing — it’s something you feel. The island was once barren and overfished, but today it’s lush again, with thriving coral gardens and a marine conservation program that the resort actively supports.

Guests can take part in hands-on workshops that show exactly how that commitment plays out. We loved the mushroom foraging experience, where my son was able to go into their adorable mushroom hut and pick mushrooms (which he loves). They then cooked and served them to us at dinner!

We also tried soap-making, using herbs and natural oils from the garden — a small but beautiful way to connect with the island and bring a piece of it home.

Family Time, Island Style

While Six Senses has a strong wellness and couples’ reputation – and it should – the spa is huge and every guest can reserve their sauna, steam bath, and cold plunge room for a completley private (or couples) experience, all as part of their stay. I also partook in a bamboo massage and it was heavenly.

In addition, it turns out to be a dream for families, too. The kids club is welcoming and creative, with everything from a slide to crafts using repurposed materials. This is easily one of our favorite family luxury hotels.

There’s a small sandy beach perfect for toddlers who want to splash in calm, shallow water, and plenty of hidden spots to explore around the island. It’s just enough adventure for little ones, with all the luxury that keeps parents happy.

And because every villa has its own private pool, we never had to compromise between rest and play — something every traveling parent knows is worth its weight in gold.

Dining and Connection

Look at this breakfast spread!

Food is such a highlight here. Everything is fresh, beautifully plated, and full of local flavor. The chefs focus on what’s seasonal and sustainable — even breakfast felt like an event, with smoothies, tropical fruit, and freshly baked pastries that set the tone for the day.

Dinner meant eating outdoors under the stars, surrounded by the sounds of the jungle, or in their treetop-themed restaurant which was an experience that felt like dining in a treehouse with all glass walls and gorgeous decor. It’s the kind of dining that’s elegant but unpretentious — a reflection of the whole Six Senses experience.

A Place That Teaches You to Slow Down

Six Senses Krabey Island isn’t about over-the-top grandeur. It’s about balance — between people and place, between luxury and purpose, between family time and quiet moments of peace.

It’s rare to find a resort that does all of that so naturally. The Six Senses doesn’t miss (read our Six Senses Yao Noi review here!)

This was the last stop on our week in Cambodia, beginning in Siem Reap at Anantara Angkor, followed by a few days at Song Saa Private Island, which was the perfect itinerary. If you’re dreaming of a destination that reconnects you — with your loved ones, with nature, and maybe even a calmer version of yourself — this is that place.

✨ Book through us for Virtuoso perks, and let us design your family’s private island escape to Six Senses Krabey Island.

*A big thank you to the Six Senses Krabey Island for welcoming us for this stay. All thoughts of the gorgeous resort are my own.
