After experiencing both, I can confidently say this is the secret spot you’ll want to choose, especially if you’re traveling as a family.

After backpacking through Vietnam 12 years prior and experiencing a very cold and foggy Ha Long Bay (t had been February, after all) I was AMAZED to see what I’d missed last time. We spent three days and two nights aboard the Dragon Legend, one of Indochina Junk’s luxury vessels, and it was easily one of the most unforgettable travel experiences we’ve ever had.

A More Peaceful Bay

Bai Tu Long Bay looks identical to Ha Long in northern Vietnam, with jade-green water and dramatic cliffs rising straight from the sea, but it’s blissfully uncrowded. Most boats stick to Ha Long’s main routes, leaving Bai Tu Long quiet and pristine. That sense of stillness was what made it feel so special. It was the perfect way to wrap up our 5-day trip to the north of Vietnam with our toddler.

As our boat glided through the misty morning light, with nothing but the sound of the waves and birds overhead, I couldn’t believe how few other ships we saw. It truly felt like we had the bay all to ourselves.

Life Aboard the Dragon Legend

The Dragon Legend is beautiful, traditional in design with warm wood interiors and modern comforts. Our cabin was surprisingly spacious, complete with a king bed, a large window overlooking the water, and a soaking tub that framed the limestone cliffs perfectly.

The boat even has a shallow pool on deck, which turned out to be a huge hit with our son. Between dips in the pool and gazing out at the passing islands, he was completely content.

The staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, anticipating our needs before we even voiced them. They were especially wonderful with kids, patient and kind, and always finding ways to make the experience fun and memorable.

Experiences That Stay With You

Each day brought new adventures, from kayaking through hidden lagoons to swimming in calm coves and visiting a local floating fishing village. But the moment that will forever stay in my heart was our private beach barbecue on a secluded island.

As the sun dipped behind the limestone cliffs, the crew set up a long table in the sand with flickering lanterns, grilled seafood, and cold drinks. Our son ran barefoot along the water’s edge while we ate under the stars. It felt cinematic, simple yet extraordinary.

Meals on board were just as memorable. The chefs managed to turn every meal into a multi-course event with Vietnamese specialties and fresh seafood that rivaled anything we’ve had on land.

Why It’s Perfect for Families

Cruising Bai Tu Long Bay on the Dragon Legend offered the perfect mix of relaxation and exploration. The pace was easy, with plenty of downtime between excursions, and the small group size made it feel intimate.

Our son loved the freedom to explore the boat, splash in the pool, and join us on short, easy kayaking trips. We loved the comfort, the quiet, and the care that went into every detail.

Final Thoughts

If you’ve ever dreamed of seeing Ha Long Bay, choose Bai Tu Long instead. The views are just as magical, but the experience is infinitely more peaceful.

The Dragon Legend by Indochina Junk strikes the perfect balance between luxury and authenticity, with thoughtful service, beautiful design, and experiences that feel personal and unscripted.

After three days of drifting through this dreamlike landscape, we left feeling completely renewed and already planning to return one day.

If you’d like to add Bai Tu Long Bay to your Vietnam itinerary, Muse Bespoke Escapes can seamlessly weave it in, pairing your cruise with a stay at Capella Hanoi for the perfect blend of culture, comfort, and quiet adventure.

*Big thank you to Indochina Junk for hosting us on this cruise. All thoughts of the amazing experience are my own.

Six Senses Krabey Island Review: Family-Friendly Eco-Luxury in Cambodia https://www.bemytravelmuse.com/six-senses-krabey-island-review/ https://www.bemytravelmuse.com/six-senses-krabey-island-review/#respond Thu, 23 Oct 2025 16:57:18 +0000 https://www.bemytravelmuse.com/?p=53212 There are few places in the world that make you exhale the moment you arrive. Six Senses Krabey Island is one of them.

Just a 10-minute boat ride from Cambodia’s coast, this lush, private island feels worlds away from the mainland. You can hear the cicadas humming, waves lapping softly at the shore, and the rustle of palms as you’re driven in a buggy through the jungle to your villa. It’s peaceful, grounded, and effortlessly luxurious. It’s the kind of place that reminds you to slow down.

And what surprised me most? Just how family-friendly it is.

Villas with Private Pools and Jungle Views

Every villa at Six Senses Krabey Island comes with its own private pool, which instantly made this trip feel easy and indulgent. We could swim while our son napped, or watch the sunset from the deck without ever leaving the room.

The design is that perfect Six Senses mix — organic textures, wood and stone, soft light filtering through the trees. It feels calm and restorative, yet full of quiet detail. Inside, there’s a deep soaking tub, a shower with a sliding door you can open to make it feel like an outdoor shower, and all the space you need to unpack and actually feel at home.

There is a separate sitting area which was perfect for transforming into a bed for our 3 year old, and it gave us that separation of space we always crave on vacation – because who wants to sit in the dark after their kids go to sleep at 7:30?

It’s the kind of room that makes you think, “Okay, I could stay here forever.”

We had the ocean view pool villa suite which had that separate sitting area space. I think it was perfect with a toddler as we could still see the ocean while feeling like we were up in the trees. There are also jungle hideaway villas, multi room residences, and beachfront suites.

Sustainability You Can Feel

Six Senses has long been a leader in sustainable luxury, but here it’s not just marketing — it’s something you feel. The island was once barren and overfished, but today it’s lush again, with thriving coral gardens and a marine conservation program that the resort actively supports.

Guests can take part in hands-on workshops that show exactly how that commitment plays out. We loved the mushroom foraging experience, where my son was able to go into their adorable mushroom hut and pick mushrooms (which he loves). They then cooked and served them to us at dinner!

We also tried soap-making, using herbs and natural oils from the garden — a small but beautiful way to connect with the island and bring a piece of it home.

Family Time, Island Style

While Six Senses has a strong wellness and couples’ reputation – and it should – the spa is huge and every guest can reserve their sauna, steam bath, and cold plunge room for a completley private (or couples) experience, all as part of their stay. I also partook in a bamboo massage and it was heavenly.

In addition, it turns out to be a dream for families, too. The kids club is welcoming and creative, with everything from a slide to crafts using repurposed materials. This is easily one of our favorite family luxury hotels.

There’s a small sandy beach perfect for toddlers who want to splash in calm, shallow water, and plenty of hidden spots to explore around the island. It’s just enough adventure for little ones, with all the luxury that keeps parents happy.

And because every villa has its own private pool, we never had to compromise between rest and play — something every traveling parent knows is worth its weight in gold.

Dining and Connection

Food is such a highlight here. Everything is fresh, beautifully plated, and full of local flavor. The chefs focus on what’s seasonal and sustainable — even breakfast felt like an event, with smoothies, tropical fruit, and freshly baked pastries that set the tone for the day.

Dinner meant eating outdoors under the stars, surrounded by the sounds of the jungle, or in their treetop-themed restaurant which was an experience that felt like dining in a treehouse with all glass walls and gorgeous decor. It’s the kind of dining that’s elegant but unpretentious — a reflection of the whole Six Senses experience.

A Place That Teaches You to Slow Down

Six Senses Krabey Island isn’t about over-the-top grandeur. It’s about balance — between people and place, between luxury and purpose, between family time and quiet moments of peace.

It’s rare to find a resort that does all of that so naturally. The Six Senses doesn’t miss (read our Six Senses Yao Noi review here!)

This was the last stop on our week in Cambodia, beginning in Siem Reap at Anantara Angkor, followed by a few days at Song Saa Private Island, which was the perfect itinerary. If you’re dreaming of a destination that reconnects you — with your loved ones, with nature, and maybe even a calmer version of yourself — this is that place.

Book through us for Virtuoso perks, and let us design your family’s private island escape to Six Senses Krabey Island.

*A big thank you to the Six Senses Krabey Island for welcoming us for this stay. All thoughts of the gorgeous resort are my own.

Song Saa Private Island Review: Cambodia’s Eco-Luxe Paradise That Gives Back https://www.bemytravelmuse.com/song-saa-private-island-review-cambodia/ https://www.bemytravelmuse.com/song-saa-private-island-review-cambodia/#respond Tue, 21 Oct 2025 17:31:54 +0000 https://www.bemytravelmuse.com/?p=53207 There are some places that don’t just look beautiful, they feel alive. Song Saa Private Island is one of those rare destinations where the sea sparkles a little brighter, the sand feels cleaner, and every detail tells a story of renewal, care, and connection.

Located in Cambodia’s Koh Rong Archipelago, this stunning resort is the country’s first true eco-luxury escape, and it’s more than just a getaway. It’s a love story between people and planet.

A Stay That Feels Like a Dream

Every villa at Song Saa has its own private pool, with views that spill out over turquoise waters or lush jungle. The design is rustic yet refined, with hand-hewn wood, flowing white linens, and soft candlelight that create a sense of warmth and calm.

The resort is built to blend into its surroundings, not dominate them. Wooden boardwalks weave through the protected waters, overwater villas stretch out across the lagoon, and the rhythm of the sea becomes your soundtrack, with fish jumping in the waters.

Book with Muse Bespoke Escapes for Virtuoso Perks

As a Virtuoso advisor, I can offer my clients exclusive benefits when booking Song Saa Private Island through Muse Bespoke Escapes, making an already extraordinary experience even more special.

Here’s what you’ll receive when booking through us:

  • 🥐 Daily breakfast for two
  • 💸 $100 ($200 for two bedroom villas) Resort or experience credit to use toward dining, spa treatments, or activities
  • 🏡 Upgrade upon availability
  • ⏰ Early check-in and late checkout (based on availability)
  • 🌺 Extra spa or experience credits for stays of 4 days or more.

These thoughtful extras elevate your trip from wonderful to unforgettable, because at a place as unique as Song Saa, the details matter.

From Logged Land to Living Paradise

When Australian founder Melita Koulmandas first discovered the island in 2006, it was far from the idyllic paradise it is today. The land had been logged and littered with trash, the surrounding reefs were damaged, and the local community was struggling to get by. The couple that owned the island, struggling to make a living fishing, made her an offer to buy the island.

Melita bought the island and spent years restoring it. She worked hand in hand with local families, creating jobs, cleaning up the environment, and establishing Cambodia’s first-ever marine reserve to protect the coral and marine life surrounding Song Saa.

It took three years just to clean up the island and regenerate the island and sea around it. There’s also lots of driftwood used in the building and decor – that’s what gives Song Saa its Robinson Crusoe meets ultra-luxe aesthetic, the perfect blend of rustic charm and refined comfort. Today, the island stands as a living example of what sustainability can look like when done with heart.

Conscious Luxury in Every Detail

What makes Song Saa so special is that sustainability isn’t an afterthought here, it’s the foundation. From building schools in the local community, and waste reduction to coral regeneration projects, every choice has been made with care and consultation with the communities closest to Song Saa.

Most of the staff are local, trained through the resort’s community programs, and their warmth and pride shine through in every interaction. It feels like everyone here is genuinely happy you came, and somehow, by being here, you’re part of something bigger than a vacation.

Family Fun in Paradise

Even though Song Saa feels like a romantic escape, it’s also wonderful for families. The staff went above and beyond to make our son’s stay magical, setting up little games and surprises just for him.

There were ping pong ball tosses where he could win ice cream, hidden messages in a bottle that led to mocktail prizes and cookies, and endless sand toys waiting by the beach. The calm, shallow waters meant he could play freely, and having our own private pool made afternoons peaceful and easy.

We also got to have a private movie night with a projector in our room, and my son was included in such a sweet and lovely way during our sound bath when our host invited him to try out the singing bowls!

It’s rare to find a resort that feels this luxurious yet still so welcoming for kids, and Song Saa somehow strikes that perfect balance.

Pizza Making and Divine Dining at Driftwood

The food at Song Saa is divine, fresh and full of flavor, inspired by the region and the sea. We especially loved our dinner at Driftwood, where the ocean breeze mingled with the scent of grilled seafood and tropical herbs. Each dish felt light yet indulgent, and every meal was served with that signature Cambodian smile.

It’s worth noting that for parents of toddlers, some of the decks and walkways around Song Saa lack railings. We dealt with it by holding our son’s hand any time we were walking across one to a restaurant, but you can avoid them altogether by utilizing in-room dining and staying in a jungle or beachfront villa. We recommend avoiding the overwater bungalows until your children are old enough to swim.

Whether it’s breakfast overlooking the ocean or cocktails under the stars, dining here feels effortlessly romantic and always deeply connected to the island itself.

Our Beachfront Villa

We stayed in a spacious beachfront villa that perfectly captured the essence of barefoot luxury. A private sandy area led straight to the water, where gentle waves lapped against the shore just steps from our terrace.

The outdoor space had everything we could want: a large private pool, sun loungers, and both dining and lounge areas with overhead fans to keep things breezy. It felt private and peaceful, like our own secluded slice of the island.

Inside, the villa was just as impressive. A huge bedroom and sitting area opened up to the sea, with every detail crafted from warm, natural wood and soft textiles. The bathroom deserves a special mention — easily the best I’ve ever seen at a hotel, with a deep soaking tub, rainfall shower, and sliding doors that opened to nature. It was a sanctuary within a sanctuary.

Plan Your Stay

Song Saa isn’t just a luxury resort, it’s a story of transformation. From a forgotten, damaged island to a thriving, sustainable sanctuary, every moment spent here is a reminder that true beauty comes from care and intention.

Book your stay through Muse Bespoke Escapes to enjoy Virtuoso-exclusive perks and let us design a seamless, soulful escape to this one-of-a-kind Cambodian island.

If you’ve ever dreamed of a place that blends eco-conscious travel with five-star comfort, where every wave and breeze feels like part of something sacred, Song Saa Private Island is that place.

*A big thank you to Song Saa for welcoming us. We have no hesitation recommending this lovely to other families.

Anantara Angkor Resort Review: Family-Friendly Luxury at the Temples of Cambodia https://www.bemytravelmuse.com/anantara-angkor-resort-review/ https://www.bemytravelmuse.com/anantara-angkor-resort-review/#respond Sat, 18 Oct 2025 01:50:50 +0000 https://www.bemytravelmuse.com/?p=53154 Thirteen years ago, I visited Siem Reap as a solo traveler, pedaling through Angkor’s ancient ruins on a creaky push bike, sweating under the Cambodian sun and only half-understanding the incredible history before me. Returning now with my family, I experienced it all in an entirely new way — one that was comfortable, curated, and surprisingly child-friendly.

Our Stay with Anantara Angkor Resort

Everything about the resort is gorgeous. Designed to make you feel like you’re walking through Angkor Wat, it’s a modern take on an ancient classic, with a nice big swimming pool, beautiful flowers hanging from the walls, and spacious suites that are perfect for families.

With 39 suites set around a courtyard pool and only 15 minutes from Angkor Wat, it has a great location and a boutique feel.

But easily the best part of the experience is the service, with staff who anticipated our needs before we even thought to ask. From the resort itself to the private tours and dining experiences offered, this is an incredible stay in Siem Reap!

Booking with Benefits

As an Anantara Journeys advisor, I’m able to offer my clients something truly special when staying at Anantara properties. Beyond the impeccable service and stunning design, you’ll receive exclusive perks such as:

  • 🏡 Upgrades upon availability
  • Early check-in and late checkout upon availability
  • 🥐 Daily breakfast for two
  • Archeological artifact tour
  • 🌺 VIP recognition and personalized welcome amenities

When booked through Muse Bespoke Escapes, you’re not just reserving a stay — you’re unlocking the kind of thoughtful extras that make a trip feel seamless from start to finish.

A Private Tour of Angkor Wat — Family Style

Our private tour of Angkor Wat was a world away from that long-ago bike ride. We explored the temples at our own pace with an air-conditioned van (a parent’s dream in the Cambodian heat) and an incredible guide who balanced deep historical knowledge with a warm, kid-friendly approach. He was also our personal photographer for the day, and we had a driver as well who greeted us after every exploration with cold towels and chilled water (always in a glass bottle – you won’t find plastic at Anantara Angkor).

We followed our own schedule, including a return to the resort for nap time — because traveling with a toddler means flexibility is everything. Throughout the day, the locals were so kind and fascinated by our little one, many asking to take photos with him. (Those photos are some of my favorite memories, though I’ve kept them private as they include other children.)

Dining by Design

One of the highlights of our stay was Anantara’s Dining by Design — a private, seven-course meal paired with a five-dance performance created just for us.

The evening featured Cambodia’s iconic apsara dance, performed gracefully under the stars. It was intimate, cultural, and unforgettable — the kind of once-in-a-lifetime experience Anantara does so well.

The meal includes a wine pairing with each course (or a mocktail in our case), and despite being a rather long affair, my toddler was so entranced with the dancing, and it is entire meal while watching the show. Best of all, it’s a private show just for you, so if you have to get up to use the bathroom, you’re not going to miss anything!

The Spa: Where Time Slows Down

I’ve had a lot of massages over the years, but the chakra massage at Anantara Angkor might be the best I’ve ever experienced. The spa itself is beautifully serene, and every guest enjoys private access to the steam room, sauna, jacuzzi, and cold plunge — included in every stay. It’s the perfect reset after temple-hopping or long travel days.

The Anantara Explorer Suite

Our suite was pure serenity. Spacious and beautifully designed, it featured:

  • 🛁 A jetted bathtub and outdoor shower
  • 💆‍♀️ A private in-room massage area
  • 🏊‍♀️ A private plunge pool and large deck just for us
  • 🍽️ A dining table and sitting room — perfect for relaxing once our son was asleep

It even had two bathrooms and two refrigerators – one for wine and one for other drinks, as well as a coffee bar. We had our own butler as well, who left a little bowl of koi fish for our son!

We could order from the extensive in-room dining menu, letting us unwind completely without leaving our sanctuary.

Like our other Anantara experiences, this one very much lived up to the level of luxury they are known for. Read our Anantara Golden Triangle and Anantara Mai Khao reviews.

What Truly Makes It Special

The food was excellent, with a full morning breakfast spread and an a la carte menu, and a massage therapist giving out free head and shoulder massages to boot. But what really made our stay stand out was the staff. They seemed to anticipate our every need before we even voiced it — from having water and cool towels ready after excursions to discreetly packing up our breakfast when our toddler lost patience.

The resort’s architecture mirrors the grandeur of the temples themselves, yet every moment feels peaceful and personal. It’s luxury that doesn’t just pamper you — it connects you to place and people.

Plan Your Stay

If you’re dreaming of a luxury, family-friendly escape near Angkor Wat, Anantara Angkor Resort is an experience that blends comfort, culture, and care in the most magical way. It was the first stop on our week in Cambodia, followed by a few days on Song Saa Private Island and the Six Senses Krabey Island to round things off. It was the perfect vacation and we didn’t want it to end!

Book through Muse Bespoke Escapes to access our exclusive Anantara Journeys perks and let us design your own unforgettable Siem Reap story.

*A big thank you to Anantara Angkor for hosting our stay and activities. Per usual, we have no hesitation recommending Anantara to other families, and have booked dozens so far this year!

The 9 Best Suitcases with a Lifetime Warranty https://www.bemytravelmuse.com/best-suitcases-with-a-lifetime-warranty/ https://www.bemytravelmuse.com/best-suitcases-with-a-lifetime-warranty/#comments Wed, 03 Sep 2025 13:00:00 +0000 https://www.bemytravelmuse.com/?p=40953 There may be no better travel companion than a great suitcase. As a seasoned traveler, I’ve come to realize that there’s no point in buying luggage without a lifetime warranty. Inevitably, it’ll get damaged, end up in a landfill, and I’ll be shelling out for another suitcase, and on it goes.

No longer, friends! Since I dumped my last cheapie suitcase, I’ve come to approach it all differently – I’m only buying luggage that the company will fix if it breaks from now on. That way, I’ll buy one for life. From my research and firsthand experience, these are the best suitcases out there with a lifetime warranty:

best suitcases lifetime warranty

1. Rimowa – Check-In L, $1,150

The Rimowa Check-In L is as efficient as it is eye-catching. With dimensions of 31.2 x 20.1 x 10.7 inches and a weight of 13.7 pounds, it has ample space for what’s on your packing list. The TSA-approved lock and Flex-Divider system are great for securing your belongings, and there’s almost no brand on the market that’s endured the way Rimowa has. Since a lifetime warranty is only as good as the company behind it, knowing that Rimowa has been around since the late 1800s and was acquired by one of the largest luxury conglomerates, LMVH, in 2016, ensures their warranty will actually last.

I love the aesthetics of all of the Rimowa suitcases, but it’s really the way the suitcases can take a beating and still hold strong that makes it popular. I used a Rimowa suitcase all the way from 2008 until 2023 when the handle broke, which meant I had it prior to their lifetime warranty (a new perk). However the fact that it lasted that long when most other suitcases have lasted me a only couple years is pretty good. Plus, let’s be honest, Rimowa is a status symbol.

  • Pros: Well established brand with quality suitcases.
  • Cons: Pricey, and not much color range to choose from.
  • Promising review: “Perfect in every way, love Rimowa. Expect wear and tear on your luggage – it means you are well traveled. 🙂 This suitcase is no different. Looks amazing and holds so much, VERY light and therefore will help you w/ weight when you’re checking. Going to be getting another carry on bc I love this one so much.”

Find Rimowa too expensive, but love the style? Here are 7 best Rimowa dupes.

2. Travelpro – Maxlite Air Large Check-In Hardside Spinner, $186

Rimowa out of your budget range? Enter the Travelpro Maxlite Air Check-In Hardside Spinner. Measuring 30 x 19 x 12 inches and weighing just 8.5 pounds, it’s the right size for stays during which you’ll have washer access. The patented Contour Grip handle is great for maneuvering through busy terminals, and the expandable feature is invaluable when you make those inevitable extra purchases on your trip.

Now, I’m usually skeptical about lightweight luggage. But with its hard shell and a limited lifetime warranty, this one is cheaper than the Rimowa but offers similar peace of mind. You can even get the whole 3-piece set for around $500, which is still half of what a typical Rimowa costs.

  • Pros: Lots of colors, affordable, and great customer service.
  • Cons: Doesn’t wheel as smoothly as Rimowa
  • Promising review: “I’ve flown about 150k miles with the bag, and it developed a few scuffs, especially when I’ve had to check it. A zipper broke and a zipper pull got lost, so I submitted the warranty claim, expecting a repair. Instead, I got an entire replacement, which legitimately floored me. I had heard stories about TravelPro’s excellent customer service, but it wasn’t until this that I believed them.”

3. Monos – Check-In Large, $355

With dimensions of 27 x 19.5 x 10 inches and weighing in at 11.3 pounds, the Monos Check-In Large fits the bill for those extended trips where you need a bit of everything. I was immediately sold by its unique features—like the anti-odor lining and the removable laundry bag, which is a game-changer for otherwise disorganized people like me.

The variety of color options, from muted tones to flamingo pink, makes this suitcase feel extra stylish. I’ve been testing the trunk version of Monos luggage on a few recent trips and I like the maneuverability, style, and functionality. That said, it does seem to take on scuffs and superficial dents easily. This isn’t a huge deal to me, but some users don’t like this about Monos. Read my full Monos review and Monos vs Away comparison.

  • Pros: Great space to weight ratio, comes in lots of colors.
  • Cons: Scuffs and dents easily.
  • Promising review: “Firstly, I have to say that Monos customer service is SPECTACULAR. I literally have never had such incredible service in my life!! Back to the suitcase- its unreal!!! It is soooo light. The handle is super sturdy which I love bc flimsy suitcase handles are one of my biggest pet peeves!”

4. Briggs & Riley – Medium Expandable Spinner, $869

Let’s talk about Briggs & Riley’s Large Expandable Spinner, with dimensions of 29 x 20 x 12 inches and a weight of 13 pounds.

This suitcase features Briggs & Riley’s patented CX™ compression-expansion system, which means you can increase the bag’s packing space by up to 25% at the push of a button, and then compress it back down. They also have an anti wrinkle feature I haven’t seen with other suitcases on this list, which makes it great for suits and dress shirts.

  • Pros: Expansion and compression feature, anti-wrinkle feature.
  • Cons: Pricey and not as pretty as the other options on this list
  • Promising review: “I have researched luggage for 2 years and the guarantee is the best anywhere. The capacity is larger than my prior cases and there is so much space we are able to take 1 case instead of 2.”

5. Eagle Creek – Cargo Hauler XT 32″ Wheeled Duffel, $319

Eagle Creek’s Cargo Hauler XT 32″ Wheeled Duffel measures 31.5 x 16.25 x 14.25 inches and weighs around 9.25 pounds. This isn’t your typical suitcase; it’s a wheeled duffel with one large packing area, which has been great for when we have to bring extra large items like our travel crib. But what made me buy (and come to love) this is the option to choose wheels or backpack straps.

I’ve been using this bag for any trip where we might encounter stairs, which makes it perfect for Tokyo‘s subway system, Europe‘s public transportation, and the loose gravel we often encounter at lodges on our Namibia trips.

The real gem here is Eagle Creek’s “No Matter What” warranty, which means repairs or replacements for the lifetime of the bag.

  • Pros: One huge packing area, shoulder straps.
  • Cons: Soft sided, so not as protective. Some users complain of color leakage with the red bag.
  • Promising review: “We’ve been using this bag for a year now and it’s amazing how much we can fit into it! The single packing area makes it possible to bring items that won’t fit into a suitcase, so it’s been hugely helpful for us.”

6. Away – The Large Flex, $425

With its sleek color selection and dimensions of 29 x 20.5 x 12.5 inches, the Large Flex suitcase from Away is both a style statement and a practical choice. It weighs in at 12.25 pounds and offers a generous 99.5L of packing space. It’s the one I often use in conjunction with our Eagle Creek with I can’t help but bring another outfit.

What sets this one apart for me is the Flex divider, designed to keep your belongings organized yet accessible. Away’s lifetime warranty covers this bag’s wheels, zippers, and handles. So, you can invest once and rest easy knowing you’re rolling with a suitcase built to last.

I’ve been switching between this one, the Monos, and the Eagle Creek depending on what we’re bringing, and so far, I’m a fan of all three.

  • Pros: Durable, sturdy luggage that people truly seem to love.
  • Cons: Scuffs somewhat easily.
  • Promising review: “Great suitcase for long international travel. Holds up well and easy to navigate with 50 lbs or more. I also love the away customer service. Customer for life!”

7. Osprey Ozone 4-wheel, $400

Next up, we have the Osprey Transporter 4-Wheel Hardside. It comes in at 32 x 16.5 x 13 inches and weighs just over 13 pounds. Osprey’s known for making travel gear that endures, and this one’s no exception. The injection-molded, polycarbonate shell is super tough, and the oversized wheels make navigating bumpy sidewalks or cobblestone less painful. I love Osprey’s backpacks, so I would love to try its new Transporter luggage!

Osprey offers an “All Mighty” warranty, which essentially says, “We’ve got your back, no matter what.” Whether it’s a broken zipper or wheel, they’ll fix it for free.

  • Pros: Well known adventure company that makes great backpacks
  • Cons: Not as seasoned with suitcases.
  • Promising review: “I love this suitcase! It is a great size, roomy enough for an extended trip, but small enough that I can lift it into trains… So happy with the purchase!”

8. Patagonia – Black Hole Wheeled Duffel Bag 100L, $419

Picture this: You’re packing to hike in Patagonia or heading to a remote beach where you’ll need to take ferries, and you need a bag that’s as adventurous as you are while also being moisture wicking. The Patagonia Black Hole Wheeled Duffel Bag 100L (32.6 x 16 x 13.7 inches and 9.25 pounds) is spacious yet manageable and made from 100% recycled polyester ripstop with a TPU-film laminate. It’s both rugged and eco-conscious.

What I love about Patagonia is its commitment to quality and the environment. Its “Ironclad Guarantee” allows for repairs, replacements, or refunds, making this a risk-free buy for the globe-trotting soul – and it’s backed for life.

I have several versions of this bag in smaller sizes, and they truly stand the test of time. It was between this and the Eagle Creek cargo hauler when I was looking for a larger version previously, but the shoulder straps on the Eagle Creek gave it the edge for me.

  • Pros: Ethical company, great quality of products.
  • Cons: Could get heavy with no backpack straps.
  • Promising review: “This bag is great. At 100L we can easily pack what we need for our 2.5year old and 6mo old, plus us. It’s nice to have the wheels as it can get a little on the heavy side”

9. Thule – Chasm, $400

For the active traveler who’s always on the go, the Thule Chasm wheeled duffel is just awesome. It measures 15.4 x 16.9 x 32 inches and weighs just under 10.2 pounds, giving you plenty of room without tipping the airline scales. This bag is built for durability, crafted with a tarpaulin fabric that shrugs off wear and tear. The oversized wheels ensure a smooth roll.

Whether you’re heading off for a week of hiking or jetting off to hit the slopes, this bag has room for all your gear and then some. And let’s not forget, it comes with Thule’s standard lifetime warranty. So, in the unlikely event that something does go awry, you’re covered.

  • Pros: From a company that has been in the game for a long time.
  • Cons: Doesn’t rate as highly as the other options on this list.
  • Promising review: “This is durable, lightweight, and water resistant. It’s a no frills bag with minimal compartments and dividers but it does It’s job well.”

***

Choosing the right suitcase is a long-term investment, and with options like these that come with generous warranties, you can travel with peace of mind, knowing that your belongings are in good hands.

So, which one of the best suitcases with a lifetime warranty will you choose?

Monos vs. Away Luggage – I Tried Both to Find Which is Better https://www.bemytravelmuse.com/monos-vs-away-suitcases/ https://www.bemytravelmuse.com/monos-vs-away-suitcases/#respond Tue, 02 Sep 2025 13:00:00 +0000 https://www.bemytravelmuse.com/?p=47078 If you’re like me, you may have been led to the decision between Monos and Away when researching the best suitcases with a lifetime warranty. After trashing THREE off-brand suitcases last year, I got over the idea of ever replacing another suitcase, and vowed only to buy ones that would be replaced gratis if they broke.

In the mid-range for pricing, Monos and Away seemed to be the two best options for hard-sided luggage that comes in everything from carry-on to large check in and even trunk sizes. I own the Classic Check in L from Away and the Hybrid Trunk from Monos, and have used both extensively. Here’s everything to know before you decide between Monos and Away.

TLDR: I found Away to be more durable but prefer the look and organization of Monos.

Monos vs. Away Durability

monos vs away luggage
Sitting between the Monos trunk and Away check in L

Before we get into it, I was gifted the Monos trunk and paid for the Away suitcase (but that doesn’t mean this review will favor Monos – I always review honestly).

Away is a US-based luggage brand that was started by Jen Rubio and Steph Korey in 2015 (we love a female-run brand!) and secured one of the largest rounds of financing for a female backed startup. The luggage has won numerous awards, has over a dozen locations around the US, and is a media darling.

Monos is a Canadian luggage brand by Victor Tam that launched in 2018 with the mission of creating something simple yet functional and durable. Their products are also climate neutral. Their flagship store is located in Vancouver and frankly looks stunning.

I’m a big Reddit and blog person when it comes to big purchases because you can’t quite trust the reviews directly from the website – they’ll always be overwhelmingly positive. During my research, I initially put my money behind Away since people raved about the customer service and seemed happy with the durability. Then I begged Monos to let me test theirs too in order to get a sense of both.

They have both held up without any issues for about a year. Most importantly, both have warranties that will replace broken parts for the lifetime of the bag.

Monos vs. Away Aesthetics

Let’s talk about the material each company uses:

Monos:

  • Polycarbonate shell that is mean to be impact-friendly and virtually unbreakable.
  • Hybrid polycarbonate and aluminum shell that features a refined metallic finish, zipperless aluminum frame, and anodized aluminum corner guards. (This is the one that I own).

Away:

  • Polycarbonate shell that comes in both the classic and expandable, ‘Flex‘ variety. (I own this one).
  • Durable aluminum hard shell and leather details. Some bags have USB chargers.

If you read reviews about either brand, you’ll see that the most common complaint is around the scuffing on the bag. It’s unrealistic to expect a bag not to get stuffed if you check it in, and it’ll show up unless the bag is black.

That said, I have to agree that Monos seems to be extra good at scuffing, and the metallic sides have dented slightly on mine. It comes with a magic eraser, but I cannot be bothered with removing scuffs from a suitcase. So far, I’ve taken it on flights to Sedona, Oahu, and a road trip to Mendocino and it’s emerged with the scuffs in the photos above. The Away has been to South Africa, Namibia, and Thailand.

It’s a bit of a bummer since I overall think that the look of Monos’ Hybrid is so much more chic and Monos has amazing colors, like lilac purple and sage green, but it has also dented, scuffed, and scratched more easily than the Away Polycarbonate.

Between all the options, I like Aluminum the most, but opted for other materials since it can be heavy, and I already tend to barely make it under airline weight limits.

Between the two that I own, I reach for the Monos more often because I think it looks more chic, but the more scuffed it gets, the less practical it becomes.

Monos vs. Away Sizes and Pricing

monos vs. away luggage

Both brands offer everything from a carry on to a trunk size, with a range of prices. Here’s what they each have:

Monos:

  • Carry on: 23″ x 15½” x 9″ weighing 7.4 lb. priced at $275.
  • Carry on pro: 23″ x 15″ x 9½” weighing 8.38 lb priced at $315.
  • Medium: 26.5″ × 18.5″ × 10.5″ weighing 9.6lb with a 70L capacity priced at $325.
  • Large: 30″ × 21″ × 11″ weighing 10.6lb with a 99L capacity priced at $355.
  • Trunk: 29.9″ x 15.7″ x 14.3″ weighing 13.2lbs with a 89L capacity priced at $455.

Away

As you’ve probably gleaned, the two brands are remarkably similar in size and price, with very little difference between even the weight and capacity of most of their suitcases (with the exception of Away’s aluminum line). Some of Monos’ are ever so slightly cheaper, but not enough to be the decision maker, IMO. Both brands often offer deals if you purchase a set. Where they stand apart is the features.

Monos vs. Away Features

Both brands offer what you’d expect from a premium luggage brand: 360-degree spinning wheels, TSA-approved combination lock, and internal compression. But as you can probably see from the side by side above, with the Away bag on the left, there aren’t as many pockets on the internal panels. Monos has far more.

This is not something I make much use of either way, since the pockets are small and not that useful, IMO, other than to stash a tracker. I use packing cubes inside, which I recommend for organization. That said, if you do make use of inner pockets Monos clearly comes out on top.

They also offer smart features with their carry on pro like a front pocket that makes stashing a laptop and taking it out for TSA simpler.

You can read more about Monos in my dedicated review and more about Away in my review.

Monos vs. Away Final Verdict

Honestly, both brands are similar, and my experience with them has been more or less the same. I love that they’re lightweight for the space they provide, and that they each come with a lifetime warranty.

It’s a bummer that the Monos scuffs and dents so easily (though this can be partially remedied by a cover) because I like the look of it much more. For that reason, I do tend to reach for it more often than my Away. That said Away has amazing customer service, longevity, and durability.

Why The Ritz-Carlton Millenia Is the Perfect Base for Exploring Singapore with Kids https://www.bemytravelmuse.com/ritz-carlton-singapore-reivew/ https://www.bemytravelmuse.com/ritz-carlton-singapore-reivew/#respond Wed, 06 Aug 2025 13:00:00 +0000 https://www.bemytravelmuse.com/?p=52963 I used to live in Singapore before I became a parent. Back then, I thought I understood the city—its rhythms, its food, its luxury. But then I went back with a toddler, and suddenly, Singapore opened itself to me like a hidden pop-up book of wonder and convenience and very clean public transport.

Let me tell you about the time I stayed at The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore with my daughter and considered moving back. Not just because the staff remembered her name (although yes, that happened and I sobbed a little), but because this hotel understands families in the most magical, quietly luxurious way. Also, there was a safari tent. Inside our room.

Why Singapore Is Always Worth a Stop

People think of Singapore as a layover city. And to be fair, it is a good one. But it’s so much more than that. I’ve been back twice with my daughter, and I’ll say this confidently: there are few places as easy, safe, and delightful to travel with young children.

✨ It’s sparkling clean and modern
✨ The MRT is stroller-friendly (and air-conditioned like a meat locker)
✨ It’s walkable, with affordable cabs when legs get tired
✨ There’s plenty of free children parks, exhibitions, events, museums and more
✨ And you’ll find play areas tucked into malls, museums, and even airports

🗓 Insider tip: Visit mid to late July. You’ll catch the lead-up to National Day, which means massive fireworks and fighter jet shows every weekend—without the crowds of actual National Day.

Why The Ritz-Carlton Millenia Is It

This hotel is iconic. Swanky without being snobby. Think: museum-level art in the lobby, but also a front desk team that will high-five your toddler.

Location: It’s nestled right in Marina Bay, walking distance to the ArtScience Museum, Singapore Flyer, Marina Bay Sands, and a short Grab ride to Gardens by the Bay. You can even see the skyline from your bathtub. (I did. While eating room service.)

What really got me though? How welcoming it is for families. No side-eye when your kid does a victory shriek in the hallway. Just smiles, name greetings, and maybe a cookie.

Where We Slept (and Played and Hid from the Heat)

We booked the Club Premier Suite, and let me tell you, it was a dream. The sleeping area has doors, which meant I could put my daughter down for a nap and still sip coffee in the lounge like a person who reads the news and wears matching socks.

The bathroom? Huge. Window-facing tub. Singapore Flyer view. Spa-like vibes.

Baby gear? Oh, they thought of everything:

  • High chair
  • Baby cot
  • Stroller
  • Bottle sterilizer
  • Bath tub
  • Milk warmer

And then there was the tent. A full-on safari-themed tent with a mattress, tiny lanterns, stuffed campfire, child-size robe and slippers, and a cookie decorating kit. My daughter thought she’d died and gone to Glamping Heaven. This was all part of Ritz Carlton’s Ritz Kids program featuring the new mascot, ‘Leo the Lion’. For The Ritz Carlton Millenia Singapore, The “Ritz Kids Night Safari Adventures” room package is available for overnight stays in an Elevated Kallang room, Deluxe Marina room, Premier Suite, Club Premier Suite or One Bedroom Millenia Suite.

This wasn’t just a hotel stay. It was a production, and I didn’t have to direct any of it.

🌟 Book with Us for Extra Perks

As a Virtuoso partner, we can help you book The Ritz-Carlton Millenia Singapore with exclusive extras (not combinable with other promotions):

✅ Daily breakfast for two
✅ Room upgrade at time of booking (subject to availability)
✅ $100 USD hotel credit per stay
✅ Early check-in / late check-out (subject to availability)
✅ Special in-room welcome amenities (Water Bar, Fruit Platter, Nonya Kueh, and Pralines)

Why Club Privileges Are Worth It

It’s really worth the extra dollars to book a Club Room or Suite, because it comes with a host of valuable perks. You’ll have access to the exclusive Ritz Carlton Club Lounge, which offers five daily food and beverage presentations, including breakfast, afternoon tea, and evening cocktails. There’s also a dedicated check-in counter, a separate club concierge, and complimentary daily laundry service (up to 2 clothing items per day) and limousine service within the vicinity, which made our city explorations effortless. It’s a level of service that makes a big difference, especially when traveling with children.

What We Did

There’s a large pool—no designated kiddie area, but floats are available and the vibe is chill. The gym is beautiful and well-equipped (not that I used it, but good to know if you’re that person). The spa? As luxurious as you’d expect. The kids club is small but thoughtfully done, and honestly, we didn’t use it much because the real win here is the location.

One morning, we visited Gardens by the Bay, and thanks to the club’s limousine service, we didn’t have to book a cab—we were dropped off right at the entrance with zero fuss. We also walked over to Marina Bay Sands from the hotel and visited the Balloon Museum one morning, then strolled back to the hotel for a nap before heading to Suntec City for dinner.

While the hotel itself doesn’t offer a huge list of kid-centric activities, its prime location makes exploring the city incredibly easy and convenient.

What We Ate

There’s a Michelin-starred Chinese restaurant on-site (you fancy), and the club lounge access was worth every extra dollar. Five food presentations daily, cocktails, and a dessert spread that had me considering elastic-waist pants.

Breakfast at Colony was solid. Not groundbreaking, but full of dependable hits (yes to dim sum and hash browns). And for anything else, you’re a stone’s throw from Suntec City, a mega-mall with hundreds of food options.

What It Costs

$460 USD/night in low season (April–June) and can go up to $1160+ USD/night in high season (December, Chinese New Year, and July/August).

Contact us to book your stay. And please—take the tent. Take the cookies. Take the bubble bath with the skyline view. You deserve it.

Luxury Family Stay at The Fullerton Singapore: What It’s Like with a Toddler https://www.bemytravelmuse.com/fullerton-singapore-review/ https://www.bemytravelmuse.com/fullerton-singapore-review/#comments Sun, 03 Aug 2025 13:00:00 +0000 https://www.bemytravelmuse.com/?p=52983 I used to think “old money” meant pearls and polite golf claps. Then I checked into The Fullerton Hotel Singapore and realized it actually smells like Diptyque toiletries, looks like a Wes Anderson film, and involves a bellboy who knows exactly where your child’s lost teddy bear is before you even ask.

Let me back up.

This isn’t just a hotel. It’s a former post office and now a National Monument. A place where presidents have stayed, royalty has dined, and now, my daughter has spilled her teething biscuits on the very same historic floors (We’re very sorry).

We checked in because I wanted to see if this grande dame of Singapore luxury could handle a toddler. Follow along if you are a fellow parent wanting to know the same:

Location, Location, Merlion

fullerton singapore review

You literally cross the street to see the Merlion. And then you blink and realize you’re standing on the bridge that connects to Marina Bay Sands. This place could not be better located if it tried.

fullerton singapore review

🦁 Iconic Merlion Park across the road
🌉 Marina Bay Sands is a short walk over the bridge
🍜 Lau Pa Sat—legendary hawker center—just down the road
🎨 National Gallery Singapore is a quick walk away

It’s like the universe decided to drop a palace right in the middle of a walking tour. If it’s your first time in Singapore, this is the spot.

The Rooms: Classic Cool with Skyline Views

fullerton singapore review

You know that crisp, quiet kind of luxury that doesn’t try too hard? That’s The Fullerton. Our room had a direct view of Marina Bay Sands, a plush bed with enough bounce for toddler gymnastics, and toiletries from Diptyque, which I briefly considered hoarding like a hotel toiletry goblin.

👶 Baby cot available on request
🛁 Marble bathroom with deep tub
🪟 Floor-to-ceiling windows with skyline drama
🐻 Teddy bear mascots lurking in hallways (my daughter fell in love)

The pool doesn’t have a dedicated children’s section, but that didn’t stop us from soaking up the sun and the view. There’s also a quirky “stumping ground” for kids to hop around in—and yes, mine did. A lot.

Book with Us, Get All the Perks

We’re a Virtuoso partner, which means you’ll unlock some real magic when you book The Fullerton through us:

🏱 Upgrade at time of booking (up to Esplanade Room, subject to availability)
🍽 Daily buffet breakfast for two
🎟 Complimentary Straits Club access for two
🏱 Fullerton-branded gift
🚗 Complimentary one-way airport transfer for suite bookings
🕒 Early check-in / late check-out (subject to availability)
📶 Complimentary Wi-Fi

The Food: High Tea, High Praise

I’ve had a lot of hotel buffets. Most blur together into a sea of eggs and regret. But The Fullerton? She knows how to plate a story.

fullerton singapore review

🍳 Breakfast Buffet: Local dishes like kaya toast and nasi lemak alongside pancakes and dim sum. No kids’ menu, but plenty of kid-friendly options.

fullerton singapore review

🍰 High Tea at The Courtyard: We visited in July, so the menu was a fun collab with a beloved local food chain for National Day. Savory kueh pie tee next to ondeh-ondeh cakes. I cried into my tea. In a good way. The setting was calm, elegant, and surprisingly toddler-welcoming. The team even offered to bring a small platter of fruits when they saw how quickly my daughter devoured everything that she was allowed to eat.

🍱 Dinner Buffet: Michelin-guide-worthy local cuisine and an insane dessert spread that could bring a grown adult to their knees. I may have hoarded three mini cheesecakes. Respect the hustle. The Fullerton is known across the city for its cakes and pastries—even non-guests come just for dessert.

Club Lounge Access: So Fabulous

fullerton singapore review

The Fullerton was at full occupancy during our stay, and let me tell you—the Straits Club Lounge was our sanctuary. A calm, intimate setting for breakfast, afternoon snacks, and evening cocktails. There were other parents there too, looking equally grateful to be temporarily removed from the buffet line chaos.

☕ Private breakfast spread
🍷 Evening cocktails and canapés
🏱 Fullerton-branded gift on arrival (hello, keepsake!)

Book a club room or suite and you’ll thank yourself. Or book your stay through us and enjoy complimentary access to the club lounge. More on that later.

What It Costs (and When to Go)

fullerton singapore review

Rooms at the Fullerton start around $420 USD/night in low season (April–June) and climb up to $600+ USD/night in high season (December, Chinese New Year, and July–August).

We stayed in July and caught early National Day celebrations—fireworks, festive food collabs, and the patriotic buzz without the crowd crush of August 9 itself.

Final Thoughts

fullerton singapore review

The Fullerton isn’t gimmicky. It doesn’t need a foam pit or cartoon mascots to lure you in. It’s a historic, elegant, perfectly-situated beauty—and if you’re the kind of person who likes your luxury with a side of legacy (and maybe an adult-sized bear), you’ll be right at home.

Would I stay here again with my daughter? Absolutely. Would I recommend it to families visiting Singapore for the first time? Without hesitation.

One of the absolute highlights of a Florida trip—especially if you’re traveling with little ones—is getting out on the water to spot wildlife. Whether you’re cruising through the calm bays of The Keys or gliding across the Everglades, there’s something magical about seeing dolphins surf the boat’s wake or spotting manatees bobbing along beside you.

We took a sunset cruise with Pirates Cove Watersports out of Key Largo, which was relaxing, scenic, and toddler-friendly (no big waves!). The shallow waters make for a smooth ride, and we had great chances of dolphin sightings—plus the golden light at sunset was incredible.

You can also join glass-bottom boat tours or kayak eco-tours from John Pennekamp State Park, or head out from Islamorada or Marathon for a half-day marine adventure.

🧖‍♀️ Stay Somewhere That Feels Like a Retreat

📍Playa Largo Resort & Spa in Key Largo

You don’t have to “rough it” to be a real traveler. If you’re the kind of solo explorer who recharges through comfort and beauty, these spots are ideal. Playa Largo has beachfront access, a serene pool, and on-site dining—so you can soak in the surroundings without needing to leave the property.

There’s also a lovely spa onsite with a steam room! I had the waves massage, which was like a deep tissue massage, which is just the best after a long flight and drive.

📍 Hawks Cay Resort in Duck Key (near Marathon)

Hawks Cay Resort is located on Duck Key with that perfectly aquamarine water you think of when picturing The Keys. There’s a Michelin-level restaurant onsite (Salt & Ash) and some of the rooms open right up to the pool! There’s an adults only pool for some peace and quiet, too.

🍽 Where to Eat in the Florida Keys

Bayside Grille (Key Largo)

Casual, waterfront dining with fresh seafood and unbeatable sunset views. Their mahi-mahi with key lime beurre blanc was a standout, and the relaxed vibe makes it great with or without kids. Bonus: there’s a giant beach chair and cornhole out back.

Sol by the Sea (Playa Largo Resort & Spa)

Right at the Playa Largo Resort, this open-air, beachfront restaurant is all about breezy vibes and fresh coastal flavors. Think seafood-forward dishes with a touch of Florida flair. A great choice for sunset.

Salt & Ash (Hawks Cay Resort, Duck Key)

A MICHELIN Guide–listed gem that somehow manages to be both upscale and family-friendly. The service was attentive, the food thoughtful and delicious, and you don’t even have to leave the resort.

Robert Is Here (Homestead stop en route to Miami)
More than a fruit stand—this spot serves legendary milkshakes, exotic fruit smoothies, and has a mini petting zoo. Don’t leave without trying the key lime shake.

🐊 Zip Through the Everglades on an Airboat

📍Everglades Alligator Farm, Homestead

If you’re looking for something iconic and a little wild (in a totally safe way), this is it. Airboat rides skim through the Everglades at thrilling speeds, and the guides are great at pointing out gators and birds. It’s short, fun, and surprisingly meditative once you hit the open grasslands.

The Everglades Alligator Farm is a no-kill sanctuary that rehomes ‘nuisance’ gators. This is the full Florida experience, complete with gator shows and the opportunity to hold baby gators.

💰 Admission: $34 adults (includes airboat & gator show)
🕒 Open daily, 9am–5:30pm

🥭 Refuel with Smoothies & Goats

📍Robert Is Here Fruit Stand, Homestead

Yes, there’s a mini petting zoo. And yes, the key lime milkshake lives up to the hype. This quirky roadside stand is the perfect stop on the way to or from The Keys—especially if you’re solo and want a feel-good, low-pressure place to take a break.

🕒 Open daily, 9am–6pm

Miami’s Best Things to Do

🧪 Feed Your Inner Science Nerd

📍Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science, Downtown Miami

This one and the Miami Children’s Museum is probably more relevant to families, but for those traveling with kids, don’t miss the rooftop deck, three-level aquarium, or the planetarium shows. It’s hands-on, stimulating, and makes for a fun afternoon. There’s also a small café and plenty of places to sit and just be.

💰 Admission: $30 adults
🕒 Open daily, 10am–6pm

🧱 Soak in Art, Culture & Color

📍Miami Beach Botanical Garden + Lincoln Road + Ocean Drive

These three spots make the perfect self-guided walking loop. Start at the Botanical Garden for peaceful plant therapy. Then wander over to Lincoln Road for shopping, people-watching, and lunch at Havana 1957 (try the chicken bowl with tender chicken, plantains, rice & beans). Wrap it all up on Ocean Drive, where neon lights, classic cars, and pastel Art Deco hotels feel straight out of a movie.

Here’s a full list of more of our favorite things to do in Miami!

💰 Botanical Garden: Free; Lincoln Rd: Free to stroll
🕒 Garden open Tues–Sun, 9am–5pm

Where to Eat in Miami

📍AVIV at the 1 Hotel South Beach

Solo dining can be empowering—or a little awkward depending on the setting. AVIV makes it easy. This Tel Aviv–inspired restaurant by a James Beard Award–winning team feels both special and relaxed. No one blinks when you’re dining alone here—and the phyllo-wrapped halloumi and fresh dips are out of this world.

📍News Cafe South Beach

News Cafe is a great place to dine solo if you’re traveling alone in Florida. It’s right in South Beach where the action is, with music pumping and lots of great people watching. The menu is varied and flavorful, and it’s an icon!

📍Havana 1957

As mentioned above, you can’t visit Miami without trying Cuban food! There are several locations of Havana 1957, so regardless of where you are in Miami Beach, you can enjoy their offerings.

📍Rosa Sky Rooftop

If you’re traveling with girlfriends or solo and want to soak up some Miami nightlife, head to Rosa Sky‘s Rooftop late night dining restaurant and bar for some amazing local ambiance!

🏖 Where to Stay in Miami Beach

Tucked along the quieter stretch of Miami Beach, The Palms Hotel & Spa feels like a serene retreat from the city’s bustle—without sacrificing location. This beachfront resort blends tropical gardens, a warm, eco-friendly ethos, and easy access to the beach and boardwalk.

The spacious rooms, inviting pool, and direct beach access make it a dream for families, but it’s also peaceful enough for couples or solo travelers looking to unwind. Essensia, the on-site farm-to-table restaurant, makes it easy to eat well without ever leaving the property. Plus, the spa offers full wellness treatments if you need a little extra rejuvenation.

It’s luxury with a laid-back twist—the kind of place where you can recharge between all your Miami adventures.

Things to Note

Whether it’s sunrise yoga on the beach, a barefoot walk through the surf, or journaling in a cabana, Miami Beach offers so many beautiful ways to close your trip with intention.

Getting There – There is an international airport in Miami and one in Key West, so technically, you could get a one-way ticket to Miami and then leave from Key West (or vice versa).

Also consider time of year. While Florida is warm and tropical year-round, the summers can be warmer and ‘winters’ more mild, and it’s a particularly great spot for MarchAprilMay, and November. We happened to visit in June, and I thought the weather was nearly perfect.

South Florida blends luxury and accessibility, nature and culture, rest and adventure. It’s one of those rare places where you can do it all—or do nothing at all—and still come away feeling like you’ve had a meaningful trip.

Whether you’re swimming with reef fish, watching Art Deco sunsets, or sipping guava juice under a palm tree, this is the kind of solo journey that reminds you how powerful it is to travel on your own.

Four Seasons Chiang Mai: Where Buffalo Bathtime Is a Real Thing (and It’s Perfect) https://www.bemytravelmuse.com/four-seasons-chiang-mai-review/ https://www.bemytravelmuse.com/four-seasons-chiang-mai-review/#comments Fri, 30 May 2025 13:00:00 +0000 https://www.bemytravelmuse.com/?p=52867 Look, I love my kid. I love traveling with my kid. But sometimes I also want a hotel that makes me feel like I haven’t given up on spa robes, silence, or meals I didn’t cook with one hand while wrangling a small person with the other. 🗺 Chiang Mai: Slower, Greener, and Definitely More Chill Than Bangkok

Chiang Mai is like Bangkok’s cooler older sister who went to art school, grew her own herbs, and doesn’t yell at you in traffic. It’s a cultural gem in Northern Thailand—think golden temples, lush mountains, and that famous noodle soup khao soi you’ll dream about for weeks.

✈️ Getting there is easy: just an hour flight from Bangkok or fly in directly from regional hubs.
🚗 Getting around is a breeze too, whether with Grab or a rental car.

This place is a soft landing for families: safe, spacious, and surrounded by activities that won’t melt your toddler—or your soul.

🌾 What’s the Vibe?

This was one of the first Four Seasons in Asia, and after 30 years, she still slays. She’s aged like Diane Keaton—elegant, calm, and slightly smug in the best way. The resort is tucked just outside the city, wrapped in rice paddies and chirping birds, so quiet you’ll swear someone hit “mute” on real life.

Rooms and villas are woven through the landscape like a village. If you’re lucky, a buffalo might saunter by. Yes, a literal buffalo.

It’s the kind of place where your toddler giggles at chickens, you sip pandan tea like you’ve always been this serene, and the loudest noise you’ll hear is a frog having a moment.

🛏 Where We Slept

We stayed in a Rice Terrace Pavilion, and it hit every note. Ground floor (toddler-friendly), private little pavilion (mom-quiet-time), and views over the paddies so calming it felt illegal. There’s plenty of space, a big bathtub, and tons of thoughtful storage—aka the holy grail of family hotel design.

No two rooms here feel generic. It’s all carved wood, beautiful textiles, and little moments of wonder. Our toddler spent forever watching birds from the terrace. I spent forever pretending I didn’t hear “Mama?” while soaking in the tub.

👉 Need more space? The Garden Pavilions offer more privacy, though a bit further out.
👉 Have teens or friends in tow? The Residences are beautiful, generous in size, and full of charm.
👉 Adults-only escape? The Pool Villas are jungle-wrapped, serene, and stunning—but only for ages 12+.

🍴 What We Ate (and Loved)

Let’s talk food—because this place does it right.

I visit Thailand multiple times a year, and I’ve had my fair share of Thai food (street-side, grandma-made, Michelin-starred and everything in between). So believe me when I say: the food at Four Seasons Chiang Mai hit the spot.

KHAO, the all-day restaurant, serves dishes that are authentic yet elevated. The kind of meals that feel like home-cooking with a PhD. There’s also afternoon tea that rotates seasonally. We caught the pandan coconut cake and strawberry cheesecake moment—and it was divine. On select Sundays? A complimentary tea-time buffet that looks like dessert met a fairy tale.

NORTH is where you go to feel grown-up again. Open-fire cooking, premium meats, and wide-open views. Pro tip: this is where the mascara comes out.

👶 Kids under 4 eat free.
🍰 There’s a kids menu, but honestly? Sharing’s more fun.

Here’s the thing: you don’t need to leave the resort

Buffalo Bathing was the highlight—and it’s free. These majestic, gentle creatures walk to greet guests each morning and evening like it’s a red carpet. Bathing them was wholesome, hilarious, and genuinely moving.

At 5pm each day, the resort hosts a Farmer’s Parade, where the team in traditional dress parade through the paddies—drums, chants, and all. It’s both calming and magical, like a lullaby for the soul. Best spot to watch? Either from the family pool (with a mocktail in hand) or from the comfort of your terrace if you’re staying in a Rice Terrace Pavilion.

We also tried the tie-dye workshop (chargeable), explored the herb garden, and watched kids squeal over ducks and chickens near the lotus pond.

There’s no kiddie pool, but both the family pool and adults-only pool are lovely in the afternoon. Poolside perks? Complimentary sunscreen, iced water, and fresh orange slices—a parent’s dream. We also floated in the jacuzzi that is tucked away and offers more privacy.

🧘‍♀️ Into wellness? There’s spa treatments, prenatal massage, sound healing, and yoga overlooking the rice fields.
💪 The gym is enormous, fully equipped, and even has a proper Pilates setup.

🎈 Why It’s Great for Kids (and Moms)

The Kids Club is beautifully curated with Montessori toys, and they’re in the process of upgrading it even more. Our toddler could’ve lived there.

And here’s the part that made my pregnant heart melt: when I told the hotel I was 5 months along, they put a maternity pillow in the room. Staff constantly checked if meals were pregnancy-safe. There are prenatal massages, yoga, and thoughtful touches everywhere—from softer bedding to quieter corners. Not many hotels go the extra mile for pregnant women like this one does, and as a mom-to-be, I felt deeply seen.

At breakfast, there’s a charming little pandan leaf craft station where kids can collect handmade flowers and animals—such a sweet way to keep little hands busy while you sip your coffee. The staff? So many are parents themselves, and it shows. They truly adore children, and it never felt like our toddler’s (very enthusiastic) presence was a burden.

From baby cots and kids’ toiletries in the room to high chairs and kid-friendly tableware at KHAO, everything felt seamlessly family-ready. And every time our toddler decorated the floor with rice or decided utensils were optional, the staff didn’t flinch—in fact, they praised her for trying to eat on her own.

Even the airport transfer came with a car seat, pre-installed and ready to go—proof that thoughtful family travel isn’t just a tagline here. It’s built into everything they do.

🧳 Final Thoughts

Yes, it’s a little out of town. Yes, it’s worth it. This isn’t just a hotel—it’s a retreat, the kind that makes you slow down, soak it in, and maybe ugly cry at a sunset (again).

Rates vary by season, starting around THB 22,000/night (~USD 600) in low season (May–September) and climbing higher in peak months (December–February). But the peace of mind? The buffaloes? The cheesecake? Honestly, priceless.

Book with us through our Four Seasons Preferred Partner program for the best rates, breakfast included, exclusive credits, VIP status, and yes—even a welcome note with your name on it.
