Buzzine.com Interviews Jared

In its fifth season, Supernatural saw what was ultimately the epic climax of a five-year story arc culminating in the apocalypse and a harrowing end for the brothers Winchester. As actor Jensen Ackles told Buzzine, older brother Dean returned from Hell to begin the most normal life he’d ever had, assuming younger brother Sam was now gone. But as the Sixth season unfolds this fall, that’s not the case. Jared Padalecki offers insight into the mind of Sam on Supernatural:

Darryl Morden: Before we get to how Sam is, how are you?

Jared Padalecki: Cry me a river. I worked ’til 3;45 in Vancouver and went straight to the airport. Sort of one of those, am I drunk? No, I haven’t been drinking. Am I asleep? No, pinch me. I’m awake. But today, after a night’s sleep, I’m better.

Zap2it : Jared and Jensen talk Season 6 & more!

Look, we’re not going to beat around the bush here: “Supernatural” stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki are hot, hot, hot, and every time we get to be in the same room as them, we’re all a-flutter. We caught up with the Winchester boys at Comic-Con in San Diego and had the chance to talk to them about Season 6, which starts one year after the Season 5 finale. Ackles’ character, Dean, has spent the last year as a defacto stepfather to his girlfriend Lisa’s son.

“It’s definitely a unique color for him, you know? Driving a pickup truck to the construction site and having dinner and falling asleep in a normal bed,” Ackles says. He wasn’t surprised to find that Dean took that direction. “I think there was always a piece of Dean that wanted to make an effort to live a normal life, and [Lisa] was the closest thing that he had to that.”

“I think that’s really what he was hung up on, was the idea of what she could bring him. And, you know, she’s not unattractive,” he adds.

Fangasm chat with Jared & Jensen

We were lucky enough to join a small group of fans at last weekend’s Supernatural convention in LA for a ‘private Q&A’ with Jared and Jensen. Private is a relative term – it’s not like we were having alone time with the boys, alas. But talking to someone sitting right across from you, without an intervening microphone, is a lot more informal than asking questions in a packed auditorium with security flanking both sides of the stage, so this was fun – and an excellent opportunity for some more Fangasm questions!

Jared and Jensen pulled up chairs (Jared immediately spun his around and straddled it, leaning his elbows on the back like a big kid) and were laid back and eager to chat. The small group of fangirls (and one fanboy), on the other hand, were surprisingly quiet – and maybe not so surprisingly nervous. Some had their questions written on index cards, presumably in case the sight of the boys up close and personal and engaged in normal conversation was too distracting to allow higher brain functions to work properly – which we can completely understand. Lynn was the only one partaking of the appetizers that the con thoughtfully provided – hey, free food! — though she managed not to talk with her mouth full for the most part.

We were thrilled when Jensen brought up his admiration for Serge Ladouceur’s talent during the Q&A on the main stage earlier (you can read about our own admiration in our two-part interview with Serge here). In the private Q&A, Jensen brought Serge up again, saying that he’d even lit the two Dean’s differently in “The End”, a subtle but crucial difference.

Zap2it.com: Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki celebrate 100 episodes

“Supernatural” is the Little Engine That Could of genre TV. It struggled to maintain its ratings when The WB folded into The CW, and has been on the verge of cancellation more than once. At the 100th episode party, executive producer Sera Gamble laughed, “Nobody ever thought we would get this far!”

The cast and crew celebrated in style. Zap2it was on the scene at the Creation Salute to “Supernatural” while stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki enjoyed breakfast with fans and talked about the party, where Ackles sang with his band, The Impalas.

“The entire band — it’s six guys, and every one of them is a crew man on our show. One of our guitar players is also our boom operator,” Ackles says. “It wasn’t like we held auditions or anything.” While it’s doubtful that The Impalas will be taking their show on the road, Ackles isn’t ruling out repeat performances. “Hey, we’re going back for a sixth season, so we’ll definitely get to play again.”

It was pretty rockin’,” Padalecki adds. “Encore tour!

The 100th episode milestone isn’t one that a lot of shows reach. Padalecki is quick to give credit where it’s due. “It’s really because of [the fans]. This is a show that’s hard to follow and you all got involved and kept involved. It’s one of those shows that smart people know about,” he jokes, “but not the rest, so it’s good to know that we have such a powerful support force.

BuddyTV: Jared Padalecki at the ‘Supernatural’ 100th Episode Party

A month and a half ago when I spoke to Jared Padalecki at the 100th episode party for Supernatural, his life was a lot different than it is now. Since that night, he’s gotten married and his show was renewed for a sixth season. But on the night I spoke to him, he was just happy to be working on Supernatural.

Well, kind of. Proving his dedication to the series, while he was in Vancouver for the event, his bride-to-be, Genevieve Cortese, was in California enjoying a bridal shower. Separated by a long stretch of the Western coastline, she was still first on his mind.

You can listen to the full audio of my interview (look above for player) with Jared for his insights on the magic of Supernatural, his relationship with Genevieve Cortese and the sacrifices of filming Supernatural in Vancouver.

Jared Padalecki on the moments that make filming Supernatural great, even if it’s 3:30am on the morning of the 100th episode party:
“We’re still working, we’re getting sprayed with water, there’s a burning truck next to us, 10 demons, stunt guys and gals, that are just working their butts off. Somehow or another, after 15 hours through daylight, nightlight, rain, unfortunate circumstances where you’re getting sprayed in 40 degree weather, everybody’s still got a smile.”

I’m Sam Winchester more often than I’m Jared Padalecki

As we roll into the end of the fifth season, Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles took time out to talk with Supernatural Magazine about the enormity of it all. Here’s an excerpt from the Issue 14 interview which is on newstands now.
An interview with Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles

For nine months of the year, Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles are possessed by supernatural entities. It’s like demons – or angels – have taken over their bodies and they are powerless to do anything but watch their days unfold through someone else’s eyes while they speak someone else’s thoughts and live someone else’s lives. Of course, those entities are just the fictional characters they play for their TV show, but when they’re Sam and Dean Winchester for “sixteen hours a day, five days a week – it’s like being in a different world,” Padalecki related. “I’m Sam Winchester more often than I’m Jared Padalecki!”

When Jared and Jensen are working those kinds of hours in the mindset of brothers who are trying to stop the apocalypse while dealing with their dysfunctional relationship and coping with the fact that the blood of all humankind could be on their hands due to the roles they played in freeing Lucifer, the enormity of it all can be rather “exhausting,” Ackles confirmed. “It’s been an exhausting season so far.”
