If she needs a foot massage, I do the foot massage. I’ve doing everything I possibly can,” Padalecki said.
“Obviously I’ve been working, so I can’t be there all the time when she needs me, but I make sure she has what she needs when she needs it, and when I get home at night.”
Due “sometime in March,” Cortese plans to have a natural childbirth with a midwife. “I’m taking the epidural shots!” Padalecki joked.
“We’re gonna try to have the baby a little while before we name it,” the actor told Us. “We don’t want to put it out there, like try and turn him into something before we meet the kid. We want to get a feel for who this kid is before we name him.”

2012 is shaping up to be Padalecki’s year: earlier this week, Supernatural won Best Sci/Fi TV Series and Best Drama TV Series at the People’s Choice Awards.

On Thursday, Jan 12th, The CW and Showtime will have their turn at the Huntington Hotel in Pasadena, CA where the network’s big shots (and big stars) will address journalists as part of the 2012 Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour.

This year, The CW is mixing it up and instead of just presenting its individual series, it will have one panel for the new reality show Remodeled, followed by a panel entitled The Bad-Ass Boys of The CW, and finally, they will close their event with a farewell cocktail reception with the cast of One Tree Hill.

The Bad-Ass Boys of The CW panel will reportedly bring together some of the hottest guys from the network’s most popular shows like Joseph Morgan (The Vampire Diaries) Ed Westwick (Gossip Girl), Wilson Bethel (Hart of Dixie), Jared Padalecki (Supernatural), Shane West (Nikita) and Kristoffer Polaha (Ringer). Sounds like an event I’d like to be a part of!

Jared, Jared, Jared. What can we say about Jared? As a constant presence in Top 30 for YEARS we’re not really sure what we can say about it that you guys don’t already know about considering you did vote like crazy (and boy do we mean CRAZY) to get him to number one. Seven seasons in on Supernatural and we’ve watched this guy’s acting knock it out of the park – he started off as the goody two shoes brother and now seven years later he’s been to hell and back and a trip to the dark side along the way. We also love that Jared is a lot of fun in RL, especially now that he’s got a Twitter! Jared joining Twitter is a definite 2011 highlight – the things he posts are so damn hilarious! Please don’t ever change Jared!

What’s Next: More Supernatural goodness as the show’s 7th season continues, but more excitingly is the news that Jared’s going to be a daddy in 2012! What a lucky kid they’ll grow up to be!

The Sutton Hotel in Vancouver was bursting with star power on Saturday night as a host of actors took time away from their busy film schedules to lend a hand to a local cause.

The actor guests included Supernatural stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles, Jennifer Morrison from House (here filming Once Upon A Time), Ginnifer Goodwin (Once Upon A Time, He’s Just Not That Into You), Robert Carlyle (The Full Monty), and Amanda Tapping (X-Files, Sanctuary, Stargate: Atlantis), to name a few.

Entertainment was provided by emcees Kid Carson and Amy Beeman from The Beat 94.5 and performances by Dirty Radio and Will Blunderfield. The Once Upon A Cure fundraiser was organized by a North Vancouver mom, whose seven-year-old son has Hunter Syndrome (MPS II).

She and her husband Ryan, who works in the film industry as a camera operator, organized the event to raise money for Hunter Syndrome research.

Those affected by the disease — 35 people in Canada — lack the enzymes to break down certain long-chain sugars. These sugars build up and damage many different tissues in the body and in most cases, the brain.

Untreated, Hunter Syndrome is fatal. The gala raised closed to $90,000.

Following the news that Charisma Carpenter and James Marsters will both guest star in an upcoming episode of Supernatural, Jared Padalecki has spoken about working with ex-Whedonverse actors – specifically Jewel Staite, who plays his childhood sweetheart in an early season 7 episode. Jared says of working with ex-Buffy, Angel and Firefly stars, of which there have been many:

It’s always nice to have somebody from the genre because they get the acting style, it’s a pretty specific acting style in my opinion when you’re doing a genre like this. It can’t be overdramatic. It has to be kind of subtle, it has to be real.

He also talks about working with Jewel Staite, who of course played Kaylee on Joss Whedon’s Firefly, and he has nothing but good things to say:

She’s a tremendous actress and a sweetheart. I met her a few years ago at a sci-fi convention funnily enough and I kind of see her here and there and it was nice to get to work with her.

We can’t wait to see them all come to Supernatural, where past guest stars of the Whedon pedigree include Amy Acker, Amber Benson, Julie Benz and Mercedes McNab!

This year, Chuck star Zachary Levi created a Nerd HQ at Comic-Con. The Nerd Machine took over a restaurant in San Diego’s Gaslamp District and gave fans a place to play games and watch panels featuring gaming, television and movie celebrities. I had the lucky privilege to attend a small panel featuring Zach’s friend Jared Padalecki, who took questions from the audience members for over an hour. Proceeds from the Padalecki panel – as well as the other panels and events at Nerd HQ – went to benefit Operation Smile. The Nerd Machine managed to raise over $40,000 for the charity during Comic-Con.

Having never been to a Supernatural convention before, I wasn’t too familiar with seeing Jared in a small panel setting, but he was charming and funny, regaling the audience with on-set antics, his fishing trip over the summer, the story of how he and Zach became friends, and why Sam Winchester’s hair has gone through so many transformations over the past 6 seasons.

Jared opened the floor to questions right from the start (after jokingly mumbling that co-star Jensen Ackles should have won the part of Captain America after the movie was mentioned by an audience member). The first question dived right into season 7 of Supernatural, and Jared revealed that while Sam will “remember what’s happened currently”, he will not be sure of what reality – or even what year – he is actually in now that the Hell wall in his head. Jared is very excited about Sam’s storyline in season 7 and called it “very scary”. He thinks that the Winchesters generally bear their burdens well (despite how many they have), but Sam will be very scared, not only by what’s happening to him, but also because of how Dean is affected by it.

When asked about his favorite season of Supernatural, Jared picked season 4 (which is mine as well). Not only did he marry an actress he met during that season (Genevieve Cortese), but he “felt that was the culmination of the original plan”. He also felt like he worked really hard and hoped that came across in season 4. Sam’s journey in that season almost bled over into his real life (despite not succumbing to the temptation to drink demon blood in real life).

One fan mentioned the always amusing gag reels on the Supernatural DVDs and asked about on-set pranks. Some of the pranks the boys play on each other are well-known online (such as that time Jared beat Misha in Words With Friends and Misha elected to pay his $1900 bet in coins), but Jared also shared about how easy it is to crack Misha up. So much so that he once had both Jared and Jensen ordered off the set so that he could continue with a dramatic scene.

comic conNext came the big question: what was Jared’s favorite Sam Winchester hairstyle? The fan said that he preferred the season 1 hairstyle. Apparently on set they have a joke that Jared has grown a “fivehead” instead of a forehead. Jared liked season 1 as well (since it was so short), but his hairstyles are on purpose. “As my forehead grew into a fivehead, they decided to share it with the world”.

When a fan said that her friend sold Jared a fishing license in Texas over the summer, Jared moaned about how he hadn’t managed to catch any fish. The boy loves going on his tangents and kept rambling until the fan mentioned Jared being spotted at the TARDIS on the Comic-Con floor and he lamented about the fact that he couldn’t fit in it. What followed were a few “I was too big to fit” innuendos and a story about Jared and Mark Sheppard venturing into the TARDIS together.

Then it was back to a Supernatural discussion when one fan mentioned that the brothers seemed to have switched personalities over the years and he wondered whether Jared agreed that the episode “Mystery Spot” was a turning point in that shift. Jared went on to explain that “Mystery Spot” was actually a pivotal episode. It was actually the last episode they filmed before the writers’ strike – even though it aired before the mid-season finale “Jus in Bello”. “Mystery Spot” was written as a possible series finale if the strike had lasted a long time and the show was not picked up for a fourth season. It was meant to be a possible segue into a potential movie or to act as an ultimate cliffhanger. Jared thinks Sam did change in that episode. But he ultimately feels like Sam’s transformation really hit its stride in season 4 when he followed Ruby, became addicted to demon blood and really started making his own divergent choices.

It wasn’t until one fan asked Jared about his favorite moment about working on Gilmore Girls that Zach revealed a hidden past: Jared had apparently beaten out Zach for the role on that show (and Jared likes the Jess/Dean fight scene, which Jared had to film despite having hurt his hip while appearing on MacGyver).

One of the audience members also brought up the recent poll Jared won about which TV stars fans wanted to see make it in movies. He reiterated the interview he gave when he won that poll and said “I’m in a great position right now where I’m part of a show doing a lot of great things. I feel so comfortable as Sam Winchester….As a Texan I’m also fiercely loyal, sometimes to the point of cutting off my nose to spite my fact. And I wouldn’t in a million years leave Supernatural if Supernatural wanted me because it’s done a lot for me.”

comic conWhile Jared’s entire was hilarious, perhaps the best part came when a fan asked how Jared and Zach first met. Zach joined Jared on stage to explain that they had originally met during a pick-up basketball game played by some actors. Later, during the writers’ strike, the two of them headed to England to do international press for their Warner Bros. shows. There they watched a real English football game (complete with unintelligible chants) where they sat in the Arsenal section that was surrounded by security guards because football games in England are very serious business. They ended up being threatened by the fans in the other section and Zach said “so the short answer is we met playing basketball but we solidified our friendship just trying to stay alive at a football game.”

It’s clear that Jared really appreciates his fans and loves interacting and joking with them. The panel was great fun and was followed by a signing by Jared which unfortunately I couldn’t stay for. Overall, it was a great afternoon that went to benefit a terrific charity. Here’s hoping Zach continues with Nerd HQ at the 2012 Comic-Con.

Supernatural made the move to Comic-Con’s big room, Hall H, this year, and had no trouble filling it with excited fans. In fact, the extra space was needed for the shrieks that met Jensen Ackles when he introduce a clip from the third episode of the show’s upcoming seventh season, which he directed. “This is a little slice of life back into Sam’s past,” described Ackles before a clip reel set to Foreigner’s “Long, Long Way From Home.”
This article does contain spoiler for season 7, you can read more under the cut.

The sneak preview focused on Sam (Jared Padalecki) and an old childhood friend played by guest star Jewel Staite (Firefly). While flashbacks of Staite’s character and a high-school age Sam (Colin Ford) showed a sweet bond between the two -– “You’re a freak. All the coolest people are,” she tells him before Sam plants a kiss on her -– things between the reunited pair are more tense. “You killed again,” Sam tells his old flame, who’s using the fake name Amy Pond, a clever wink to fans of Doctor Who. “You know the kind of person I am,” she says, offering to show him what’s behind a secret door, but only if he drops his knife. “Show me and I’ll drop the knife,” Sam replies. She reaches for the door…and cut to black!

Unlike Ackles’ first directorial effort, Season 6′s “Weekend at Bobby’s,” we will be seeing more of the actor in front of the camera as Dean, too, which made the whole actor-director gig a “more difficult” experience, Ackles explained.

But what about Misha Collins, who won’t be returning as a series regular in Season 7, after ascending to the role of God in the Season 6 finale? The actor called it “incredibly daunting” to find himself playing the man upstairs. “How do you play God?” he wondered. “It’s an interesting challenge to work on.”

So does that mean Collins will be around a lot next season? Showrunner Sera Gamble was reluctant to spoil anything. “You saw the cliffhanger. It was very cliffhangery,” she said, before adding, “He’s going to be the first couple episodes.” Gamble did, however, reveal that we’ll be seeing Jo, Crowley (“Cas said he has big plans for him. We’re going to tell you what those are right from the jump”), Sheriff Mills, and Death next season. “And you’ll meet new guys too,” she added.

However, there are no current plans for a return appearance by Chuck, since Castiel will be taking on the role of his absent father, God. “[Castiel] has always felt very strongly that his father abandoned them all,” said Gamble. “One of the questions we asked ourselves [this season] was, ‘You’re God. What do you do? How will you do things differently?’”

Season 7 will take the Winchester boys to scary new places. Now that the wall in Sam’s head has fallen, we’ll learn about the horrible things that Sam did. “Sam is way out of his league,” explained Padalecki. “It’s kind of scary. … We get to see what can scare the Winchester boys.”

And how do you top the super-meta of “The French Mistake”? Maybe you don’t. “I don’t know that there’s much more we can do,” said executive producer Ben Edlund. But he does think “there’s lots of room to play with form” with episodes like “Ghostfacers.” In fact, he’s already got two cool ideas: ninjas and spaceships!

Ackles also gave props to Supernatural creator Eric Kripke for carrying out his five-year plan for the show. “I’m surprised and also proud at the fact that Mr. Kripke kept to his word and wrote those five years the way he had planned,” said the actor. And Ackles is up for continuing to look ahead, despite already passing that five-year mark. “Because the story of these two brothers continues to evolve, the stores are kind of endless,” he said. “As long as they keep kicking out stories, we’ll keep telling them.” Gamble added Kripke really created the “perfect franchise” and the writers have a plan prepared if the seventh season is the last year, as well as if it’s not. “We hope to go on for a long time,” she said. “We have fresh blood in the room,” which has re-energized the show.

Finally, the panel closed out with a Comic-Con tradition: a preview of Season 6′s DVD gag reel. A couple of teases: Cat walk, dancing, and a worm. Don’t miss it Sept. 13!

With hundreds of thousands of people attending San Diego Comic-Con every year and the July 20-24 event kicking off this week, The Hollywood Reporter chatted with the big names in television to discuss their favorite memories and tips for attending the annual event. THR’s Live Feed will talk Comic-Con with actors, writers and producers in the days leading up to the event so check back soon for interviews and the latest news on panels and screenings.

Geek Cred: Supernatural, Friday the 13th, House of Wax
Comic-Con panel: Supernatural, Sunday, July 24, 11:15-12:15 p.m., Hall H

THR: What were your first impressions of Comic-Con?
Padalecki: I’m a total sci-fi/fantasy/comic book geek; I collected comic books growing up; I’ve got every Star Wars incarnation of the trilogy; and I’ve read all the Lord of the Rings books and have a tattoo – I’m just kidding about that! – I was digging through my brother’s wallet and saw one of his passwords was Gandalf, and I teased him about it but I’ve done the same thing.

THR: What stands out from your first Comic-Con?
Padalecki: We lovingly call ourselves The Little Show That Could because we have always been up against big heavy-hitting. We always knew we had a loyal following but I had no idea how loyal it was. I remember being onstage and seeing people standing up in the back of the auditorium and then looking at the front row and seeing [Warner Bros. Television CEO] Peter Roth sitting there looking around with a look on his face that he didn’t realize how huge the fan base was.

THR: What’s the best thing a fan has said to you at Comic-Con?
Padalecki: Jensen and I have started going to conventions and meeting lots of fans worldwide. What amazes me every time I hear it is that the show has gotten them through hard times and that they have connected with my character, Sam Winchester, and been strengthened and emboldened by his courage in the face of overwhelming obstacles. That always means a lot. Sam Winchester, MD, JD, CPA, FBI – everything depending on the episode!

THR: What panel would you stand in line all day for?
Padalecki: I’m a big Star Wars fan and grew up watching the movies. I read all the books and have read Star Wars fiction that went between the newest trilogy and the original trilogy and it was part of my childhood. I’d love to see George Lucas’ take on the last three decades of fandom that he largely inspired. So Lucas and all the producers from the original Star Wars movies.

THR: What questions would you recommend fans not ask?
Padalecki: Once I was asked why Sam was wearing a lot of yellow and how it impacted his character’s direction. It gives me more confidence as an actor that people notice all these little nuances. Those questions are OK, but personal questions about my wife and what kind of underwear I’m wearing are off limits.

THR: What tips do you recommend to have a successful panel?
Padalecki: I’m a sucker for gag reels and teaser trailers for new seasons. One of the great parts of panels, especially on a show like Supernatural, which can be so dark, it’s fun to get up there and laugh and remember we’re only telling a story. Seeing Eric Kripke and Ben Edlund up there being so funny always makes me laugh.

THR: What advice do you have for Comic-Con first-timers?
Padalecki: Plan out a schedule; if you haven’t been there yet, it’s enormous. It’s like going to a museum: I know I want to see the Mona Lisa, Joan of Arc, the Statue of Michael, break! Knock out what you want to see because you will get sidetracked. Make a plan and be flexible.

THR: If you were to attend in costume, what would it be?
Padalecki: Boba Fett. I’m in San Antonio sitting in my bedroom that I grew up in and I have four Boba Fetts in here (pictured). I have an irrational childhood love of Boba Fett. (Laughs.) Ever since I watched the movie, I always wanted to be a bounty hunter; it sounded so cool to me as a child. I always remember the scene where Han Solo is dying and I just got the sense that Boba Fett was just really cool. I always wanted to dress up as him. And he had that great rocket on his back. That must be it, I always loved the Rocketeer, too!

THR: Season 7, Sam faces a foe unlike anything before. What can you tease?
Padalecki: I’ve seen the episode that Jensen Ackles is directing, which is the first one we’re shooting and I’ve seen the season opener. We have to go big or go home and Supernatural has a tendency to go big and badder and this season the foe will be bigger than Armageddon, bigger than the apocalypse, bigger than Lucifer and bigger than God. Although I don’t know what that could possibly be, but I’m looking forward to finding out. If it could be Boba Fett, I’m quitting the role of Sam and playing Boba Fett! (Laughs.)

“Supernatural” star Jared Padalecki recently won NextMovie’s poll about TV stars fans would like to see get big movie careers — but don’t worry, “Supernatural” fans. Even if a fantastic movie role comes his way, he’s not interested in ditching Sam Winchester any time soon.

“I wouldn’t. I’m a Texas guy, and the good and bad of that is that I’m always, first and foremost, loyal. If it weren’t for ‘Supernatural,’ I wouldn’t have a lot of the blessings that I have today, so I’m going to play it out,” he tells the site. “I’m going to give it my all. I’ll be with the cast and crew for the remainder, as long as the fans want us on the air and the network obliges. I’d love to have a movie career. I’m still pretty young. I’m not going to be 29 for another month. So if the show goes another year, I’m 30. If it goes for five years, I’m 34. I think I’m hopefully in the dawn of my career, not in the dusk, so I think I’d be happier sticking it out with ‘Supernatural.’”

He still has a lot of love for his first TV gig, too, as the perpetually lovelorn Dean Forester on “Gilmore Girls.” Padalecki says that if a “Gilmore Girls” movie gets made, he wouldn’t hesitate for a moment in signing on.

“One hundred percent!” he says. “I would love to. I really would truly love to. It was so fun. I have nothing but fond memories of that show. I came to it straight out of high school, I grew up on the show, and I’d love to go revisit that character.”

As for other movie dreams, Padalecki says his career idols are Tom Hanks and Johnny Depp. He recently read “Lone Survivor,” an eye-witness account of a fallen team of Navy Seals on a reconnaissance mission on the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. “I would love to play Marcus Luttrell, who was the author and the ‘lone survivor.’ He’s a national hero; he’s very courageous and heroic in insurmountable danger, so it’s something I’d love to explore. And being involved in – what, three wars, right now? The U.S? — it’s easy to sit here and worry about rats in my vents and wisdom teeth being pulled. Meanwhile, there are a lot of people who don’t have running water and… [there are men and women] fighting for our freedom. I’m really grateful for that and I’d love to explore that on screen.”

Padalecki comes by the interest in war movies honestly, but they’re not the only genre he’s interested in. “My father’s a big war buff, so I became a big war buff,” he says. “Anything having to do with World War II, I’d love to be a part of. I’d love to do a war movie in some way, shape or form. I’d [also] love to do a comedy. I’m terrified of comedy. I don’t think I’m funny, but I guess that’s why it’s so thrilling.”

“Gilmore Girls” was totally a comedy. Just saying.
