We were lucky enough to join a small group of fans at last weekend’s Supernatural convention in LA for a ‘private Q&A’ with Jared and Jensen. Private is a relative term – it’s not like we were having alone time with the boys, alas. But talking to someone sitting right across from you, without an intervening microphone, is a lot more informal than asking questions in a packed auditorium with security flanking both sides of the stage, so this was fun – and an excellent opportunity for some more Fangasm questions!
Jared and Jensen pulled up chairs (Jared immediately spun his around and straddled it, leaning his elbows on the back like a big kid) and were laid back and eager to chat. The small group of fangirls (and one fanboy), on the other hand, were surprisingly quiet – and maybe not so surprisingly nervous. Some had their questions written on index cards, presumably in case the sight of the boys up close and personal and engaged in normal conversation was too distracting to allow higher brain functions to work properly – which we can completely understand. Lynn was the only one partaking of the appetizers that the con thoughtfully provided – hey, free food! — though she managed not to talk with her mouth full for the most part.
We were thrilled when Jensen brought up his admiration for Serge Ladouceur’s talent during the Q&A on the main stage earlier (you can read about our own admiration in our two-part interview with Serge here). In the private Q&A, Jensen brought Serge up again, saying that he’d even lit the two Dean’s differently in “The End”, a subtle but crucial difference.

“Supernatural” is the Little Engine That Could of genre TV. It struggled to maintain its ratings when The WB folded into The CW, and has been on the verge of cancellation more than once. At the 100th episode party, executive producer Sera Gamble laughed, “Nobody ever thought we would get this far!”
The cast and crew celebrated in style. Zap2it was on the scene at the Creation Salute to “Supernatural” while stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki enjoyed breakfast with fans and talked about the party, where Ackles sang with his band, The Impalas.
“The entire band — it’s six guys, and every one of them is a crew man on our show. One of our guitar players is also our boom operator,” Ackles says. “It wasn’t like we held auditions or anything.” While it’s doubtful that The Impalas will be taking their show on the road, Ackles isn’t ruling out repeat performances. “Hey, we’re going back for a sixth season, so we’ll definitely get to play again.”
“It was pretty rockin’,” Padalecki adds. “Encore tour!”
The 100th episode milestone isn’t one that a lot of shows reach. Padalecki is quick to give credit where it’s due. “It’s really because of [the fans]. This is a show that’s hard to follow and you all got involved and kept involved. It’s one of those shows that smart people know about,” he jokes, “but not the rest, so it’s good to know that we have such a powerful support force.”

Zap2it is spending the weekend live on the scene with the stars of “Supernatural” at Creation Entertainment’s Salute to Supernatural in Los Angeles, and it seems that all of Jared Padalecki’s co-stars have a bone to pick! Kurt Fuller already shared the story of an on-set prank Jared played on him, and he’s not the only one.
When Misha Collins, who plays Castiel, the rogue angel, is asked about his acting techniques, he sighs. “Here’s what it is. Usually it’s just me, going in there, and as Jared fondles my balls, I try not to laugh. That’s my approach to nuanced acting.”
“When Jared and Jensen Ackles are both in a scene,” he continues, “that’s when it gets really hard. When you’re trying to do your closeup and another actor has his foot in your crotch, it’s complicated. Castiel’s characterization is just me trying to muscle through being molested, honestly. It happens often. I just need to vent: argh, Jared!”
AJ Buckley and Travis Wester, who will be starring in the “Supernatural” spin-off web series, “Ghostfacers,” recall a night of shooting where Padalecki randomly decided to lift Buckley off the ground and walk around with him tossed over his shoulders.
“He didn’t put me down for ages. He thought it was hilarious. He was like, ‘Ha ha, Jensen, look at this!’ Just walking around with me on his back. He’s like, ‘Hee-hee, look at my little buddy!” Buckley says, sighing.
“We were just guest stars!” Wester chimes in. “We couldn’t say anything! I was just sitting there praying he didn’t come for me next.”
It doesn’t end there. Jim Beaver, who has been playing Bobby Singer on “Supernatural” for four years, has come to know both Padalecki and Ackles quite well over the years. “I feel like their slightly older brother,” he jokes. “Though I could never live with Jared. I’m very sensitive to terrible smells.”
“I’m really fond of both of them,” he says. “I just wish I could control certain elements of Jared’s diet. Limiting it to food, for example.”
As we roll into the end of the fifth season, Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles took time out to talk with Supernatural Magazine about the enormity of it all. Here’s an excerpt from the Issue 14 interview which is on newstands now.
An interview with Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles
For nine months of the year, Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles are possessed by supernatural entities. It’s like demons – or angels – have taken over their bodies and they are powerless to do anything but watch their days unfold through someone else’s eyes while they speak someone else’s thoughts and live someone else’s lives. Of course, those entities are just the fictional characters they play for their TV show, but when they’re Sam and Dean Winchester for “sixteen hours a day, five days a week – it’s like being in a different world,” Padalecki related. “I’m Sam Winchester more often than I’m Jared Padalecki!”
When Jared and Jensen are working those kinds of hours in the mindset of brothers who are trying to stop the apocalypse while dealing with their dysfunctional relationship and coping with the fact that the blood of all humankind could be on their hands due to the roles they played in freeing Lucifer, the enormity of it all can be rather “exhausting,” Ackles confirmed. “It’s been an exhausting season so far.”

Supernatural star Jared Padalecki is the third actor in the running to star in the remake of Conan The Barbarian, sources tell JustJared.com.
It was reported earlier this week that Kellan Lutz (Twilight) and Jason Momoa (Stargate: Atlantis, Baywatch) are the two others in competition for the role.
Conan is set to start production on March 15 in Bulgaria but as previously reported that Padalecki’s schedule might be causing a little bit of trouble — he plans on tying the knot with fiancee Genevieve Cortese this spring in Sun Valley, Idaho.
Directing Conan is Marcus Nispel, who worked with Jared on the 2009 horror flick Friday the 13th.
WHO DO YOU THINK is right for the Conan role — Kellan, Jason or Jared?
