Daemon’s TV Interview with Jared at Comic-Con 2011

Jared Padalecki, star of the CW’s hit series SUPERNATURAL, was at Comic Con 2011 to do a panel for the show. Before taking the stage with his fellow co-stars, Jared sat down to answer a few questions.

Jared filled us in on what it was like to play two different versions of Sam in season six while juggling the task of recording for the anime series at the same time, how his life has been changed right along with Sam’s throughout the course of the series so far, and what it was like to be directed by his best friend Jensen Ackles.

BuddyTV Interview: Jared Padalecki at Comic-Con

Shortly before Supernatural took the 2011 San Diego Comic-Con’s Hall H by storm, the cast and producers took the time to meet with reporters. Jared Padalecki shared his thoughts on Comic-Con and where Supernatural is going in the upcoming season.

Personally, what is your favorite urban legend?
Jared Padalecki:
My favorite urban legend… I don’t even know if it’s an urban legend, but my dad used to have a Twilight Zone episode called “The Shadow Man.” Did you ever watch it? It was fun. And I’ve always loved it. I’ve always liked that idea. I’ve always really been into that concept. It’d be difficult to do because you’re trying to look like a shadow! So there’d be a lot of… there’d be a big visual effects budget.

No “Hook for Hands?”
Jared Padalecki:
You know what, “Hook Man” actually, I mean having done it, it feels weird to say it, but “Hook Man” was probably my favorite. “Hook Man” and “Bloody Mary” were probably my favorite coming in. Because Bloody Mary, everybody does as kids, at least in Texas we did, go to the bathroom and say it, you know? When your eyes start to adjust you run out… So that one was a fun one. And “Hook Man” was another Scary Story to Tell in the Dark so.

Jared Padalecki: Will Season 7 be the scariest yet?

We would argue that the scare factor on “Supernatural” has decreased over the years, mostly due to the fact that by now, we as an audience are harder to surprise. When we caught up with series star Jared Padalecki at San Diego Comic-Con, however, he suggested that Season 7 may be the scariest yet — at least inside Sam Winchester’s head.

“I got chills on my arm. I don’t think I’ve ever gotten that,” he says. “There were parts where reading the script I was almost watching the show.” He gives a full-body shudder for effect. “We’ve seen these guys bear their burdens and wear their fear with courage and with stoicism, and just flash through it, and that’s honorable, that’s how people get through their day, hopefully, but here we see Sam scared. Truly terrified. For somebody who’s seen what he’s seen to really be losing it, it kind of gives me chills.”

Jared at Nerd HQ: The Show, Stories & Sam’s Hair

This year, Chuck star Zachary Levi created a Nerd HQ at Comic-Con. The Nerd Machine took over a restaurant in San Diego’s Gaslamp District and gave fans a place to play games and watch panels featuring gaming, television and movie celebrities. I had the lucky privilege to attend a small panel featuring Zach’s friend Jared Padalecki, who took questions from the audience members for over an hour. Proceeds from the Padalecki panel – as well as the other panels and events at Nerd HQ – went to benefit Operation Smile. The Nerd Machine managed to raise over $40,000 for the charity during Comic-Con.

Having never been to a Supernatural convention before, I wasn’t too familiar with seeing Jared in a small panel setting, but he was charming and funny, regaling the audience with on-set antics, his fishing trip over the summer, the story of how he and Zach became friends, and why Sam Winchester’s hair has gone through so many transformations over the past 6 seasons.

Jared talks S7: Sam is ‘tortured’ but ‘honorable’

Don’t tell our other TV shows, but “Supernatural” may be our favorite show to cover at San Diego Comic-Con. This year was no exception! Before he took the stage in Hall H to speak to a packed room, we spoke with series star Jared Padalecki about Season 7 and Sam Winchester’s newest hurdles.

As we saw in the Season 6 finale, Castiel (Misha Collins) brought down the wall in Sam’s head that protected him from his memories of hell. We saw him stagger to save his brother, but the memories will continue to plague him. “We pick up right where we left off,” Padalecki says. “I think not only the audience but the actors would’ve been really upset to just pick up three months later like ‘Glad that cleared up!’ so we pick up immediately. Sam has figuratively seen the worst he’s going to see. So now it’s up to Sam to acknowledge that and move forward.”

Supernatural @ Comic-Con: Sam’s Flashbacks, Castiel’s Future, and…Ninjas from Space?

Supernatural made the move to Comic-Con’s big room, Hall H, this year, and had no trouble filling it with excited fans. In fact, the extra space was needed for the shrieks that met Jensen Ackles when he introduce a clip from the third episode of the show’s upcoming seventh season, which he directed. “This is a little slice of life back into Sam’s past,” described Ackles before a clip reel set to Foreigner’s “Long, Long Way From Home.”
This article does contain spoiler for season 7, you can read more under the cut.
