Help the Animals – Donate on Behalf of Jared, Harley and Sadie
–The founders of SupportSupernatural.com have a small mission on behalf of animals everywhere! Heather Vitas and Lindsay Warren hope to collect money for The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) – on behalf of Supernatural’s Jared Padalecki and his two dogs, Harley and Sadie!
Vitas and Warren have a goal of raising at least $500 for each organization. If they reach the goal, they will present Padalecki with a certificate announcing how much money Supernatural fans collected for The HSUS and PETA! They will present the certificate to
him at Creation Entertainment’s Salute to Supernatural this November in Rosemont, IL.
“It breaks my heart to read all the stories about these poor abused and neglected animals in the world. It’s nice to know there are organizations like The Humane Society and PETA who are being the voice and advocate for these critters,” said Heather Vitas of SupportSupernatural.com.

The Humane Society of the United States is the nation’s largest and most effective animal protection organization. Established in 1954, The HSUS seeks a humane and sustainable world for all animals—a world that will also benefit people. They are

Founded in 1980, PETA is dedicated to establishing and defending the rights of all
animals. PETA educates policymakers and the public about animal abuse and promotes
kind treatment of animals.
PETA’s animal protection work brings together members of the scientific, judicial, and
legislative communities to stop abusive practices. Aided by thorough investigative work,
congressional involvement, consumer boycotts, and international media coverage, PETA
achieves long-term changes that improve the quality of life for, and prevent the deaths
of, countless animals.

right thing to do,” said Lindsay Warren of SupportSupernatural.com.
Here are a few statistics on why animals need monetary support (from American
Humane):
* Of the 1,000 shelters that replied to the National Council’s survey, 4.3 million animals
were handled.
* In 1997 roughly 64% of the total number of animals that entered shelters were
euthanized — approximately 2.7 million animals in just these 1,000 shelters. These
animals may have been put down due to overcrowding, but may have been sick,
aggressive, injured, or suffered something else.
* 56% of dogs and 71% of cats that enter animal shelters are euthanized. More cats are
euthanized than dogs because they are more likely to enter a shelter without any owner
identification.
* Only 15% of dogs and 2% of cats that enter animal shelters are reunited with their
owners.
* 25% of dogs and 24% of cats that enter animal shelters are adopted.
It is from these numbers that American Humane estimated what is occurring nationwide.
It is accepted that approximately 9.6 million animals are euthanized annually in the
United States.
